Apple Pie & Apple Butter Contest

Pie & Butter Sale: 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Champions Auction: 5:30 PM

Contest Categories

Apple Pie - Junior Division (Ages 7-13)

  • Open Category
    Best Apple Pie - $50 prize
    2nd Place - $35 prize
    Captain's Choice - $25 prize

Apple Pie - Adult/Senior Division (Ages 14 & Up)

  • Traditional: two crust pie with apple filling only
    1st Place - $100
    2nd Place - $50
    3rd Place - $35
  • Non-traditional: mostly apples but other ingredients such as nuts, caramel, other fruits, and crumb topping may be used
    1st Place - $50
    2nd Place - $35
    3rd Place - $25

Apple Butter - Open Division

  • Open Category
    1st Place - $50
    2nd Place - $35
    3rd Place - $25

Non-winning apple pies and apple butter entries will be available for purchase at the Murphysboro Event Center between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m the day of the contest.
Apple Pies will be $10.00
Apple Butter will be $5.00

Winning Apple Pies and Apple Butter entries will be auctioned off at a time and place TBA

  • No frozen pies.

  • Pies and apple butter must be brought to the Murphysboro Event Center between 7:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 17. Further COVID precautions will be in place - details TBA.

  • Containers become the property of the Apple Festival.

  • All apple butter jars must be sealed.

  • Judges have the final decision.

  • Apple Butter and Apple Pie categories will have different judges.

  • Apple Pies will be judged on appearance, crust, filling, and flavor.

  • Apple Butter will be judged on appearance, taste, and texture.
